Les Macare and Els Dobrick
Both of us are first generation farmers and committed to curiosity and learning. If you grow vegetables, you will find there is something to learn or figure out every day!
We started farming together in the spring of 2014 on half an acre of rented land north of Minneapolis. It was a humble start, and despite poor soil we managed to eek out a decent harvest. More importantly, we discovered that we love working together and decided to be a little more ambitious the next year. For the following two seasons we rented 2 acres of land in Stillwater, MN before finding our own place in Western Wisconsin. We have settled into a size that seems to fit us just right, what we can do with hand tools and a small "walk-behind tractor", just about 2 acres.
We are having a blast figuring out what the long term plan is for our land. Right out of the gate we knew we wanted to incorporate animals (for fertility and for the joy they bring to our lives), so we got some chickens on the first day we moved in. Shortly after, a friend of the farm gifted us a small flock of sheep. We also are scheming about trees and how to include them in our farm landscape for food production, crafting, and wildlife habitat.
